Daily Scoop 12.9.10 Trinidad Government May Be Audited for Spending Over $800,000 On Nicki Minaj Concert

Nicki Minaj’s hometown of Trinidad and Tobago is in hot water after spending over $869,000 on a concert featuring Nicki Minaj last month. The concert was widely publicized in the media and also featured on Nicki Minaj’s MTV documentary “My Time Now”.

Expenses for the concert included local advertising costs of $150,000, local culture costs of $26,000, a local fashion show – $60,000, boarding fees at the Hilton Trinidad for $60,343, and local artists fees of $40,000. Booking Nicki Minaj was the biggest portion of the costs which totaled over $382,000 (in Trinidad currency) for Nicki’s talent fee plus her entourage and agent fees.

According to a local Trinidad newspaper, the concert was held to launch the Ministry’s Localize It campaign however, not as many people came out as expected due to the pricing of the tickets. VIP sections for the show cost patrons $250 and $450. There was also a Kids Zone which cost $1oo for kids and $200 for Adults accompanying the kids. VIP and MTV Zones at the show (which were probably the best seats in the house) cost $900.

Members of the government are also being accused of denying funding to youth organizations because of the expenditure on the concert.

I hope it was worth spending tax payers money on the concert.
